Dr. Janet Tupou
for Kaipātiki Local Board
Kia ora, and warm Pacific greetings!
After completing my first term on the Kaipātiki Local Board, I remain committed to challenging the status quo and uplifting the voices of our Pasifika communities and the wider Kaipātiki whānau. Our stories matter, and I’m focused on ensuring they’re heard, valued, and reflected in local decision-making.
I’m a proud Tongan, born in Aotearoa and raised on Auckland’s North Shore. I hold a PhD in Communication Studies and work as an academic and university lecturer, teaching Media, Intercultural Communication, Politics, and Social Change.
Outside the classroom and board table, I’m a business owner focused on research, strategy, and community development. My work bridges grassroots insights with systems-level thinking to create meaningful, lasting impact.
Grounded in lived experience and informed by research, I bring a bold, future-focused perspective to governance. I’m here to keep pushing for inclusive, effective change and to ensure no one is left behind.
